This project tackles local climate challenges by utilising AI to develop innovative solutions, helping us reconnect with nature. It establishes a space focused on inspiring environmental stewardship and driving meaningful change. A catalyst for global environmental change, the project aims to:
Embrace the challenge of creating a cohesive community, motivating tourists to actively engage in preserving the local natural environment, aiming to reduce excessive littering and traffic pollution.
Utilise AI and smart technologies for workshops, immersive experiences, and educational campaigns.
Host a local market, promoting sustainability and reduce carbon footprints in food and fashion.
Sustainability
The building has a series of structural systems designed to not only replicate a tree canopy for shading passersby against environmental conditions, but also integrate advanced water and wind harvesting technologies. The 'trunks' support an expansive canopy housing small wind turbines, whilst directing rainwater from the canopy down to a water collection system. Solar panels cover the main building's roof, while high-traffic areas utilise kinetic flooring to generate additional energy. The large skylight perfectly frames the natural environment, inviting vital light into the building and acting as an idyllic space for conference meetings in mitigating the climate crisis.
In addition, AI-driven smart lighting optimises energy usage by adjusting based on daylight condition, the brightness and tone of the lighting will adapt, improving energy efficiency and reducing the need for artificial lighting. The interactive smart building features a visual system that communicates real-time energy resource usage through colour-changing LEDs. Shifting between green, amber, and red, the display encourages user awareness and promotes positive actions to optimise energy consumption.
1. Entrance: Introduction to the Problem – A space dedicated to raising awareness about the building's purpose, narrative, and goals, emphasising the urgency of the climate crisis.
2. Discovery: An immersive experience designed to showcase the beauty of the natural world, opening visitors' eyes to the importance of environmental conservation.
3. Experience: Equipped with VR and MR goggles, this area allows users to explore the surrounding woodland scenes, comparing the present state of the environment to potential futures: one with no action taken, and one with significant efforts to mitigate climate change. This interactive experience motivates visitors to make positive changes.
4. Understanding Solutions: A sustainable marketplace featuring stalls that showcase individuals already making impactful environmental changes.
5. Implementing Solutions: Workshop stations where visitors can engage in hands-on activities and learn practical ways to apply sustainable practices in their own lives.
6. Reflection Space: A local café and an immersive skylight area with a balcony, offering a peaceful retreat among the canopies of surrounding trees, ideal for relaxation and contemplation.
7. Self-Directed Study: A quiet area for personal research and reflection, providing resources for visitors to further explore sustainability topics on their own.
